Today being Diwali I was awake little early.. It was 4 am and I was pretty busy listening to Karnatic music(which I never do :) ).. After I took a bath I switched on T.V and was highly irritated to see cine actors and actress giving out interviews.. I always used to get annoyed by my dad's comments when he used question the very reason of these interviews and he always used to ask me what have these people achieved that they have started giving out interviews.. I was too young to understand wat my dad said all these years and I used to rubbish his comments alwayz.. But this time I realised the truth in his words and the morality in his questioning.. I was highly irritated to see every t.v channel showing a actress or a actor..
So I decided to burst crackers and my little bro accompanied me.. It was fun all the while until I met a little boy with a small plastic cover on his hand.. He came near me and said " Anna orru patasu" (Give me a cracker).. Well I gave him a packet and he went off.. Then as usual I and my bro started bursting cracker.. Then I started realising something which made me stop bursting crackers.. It made me think lotz and consequently write lotz :) .. Why do we celebrate diwali? Well its to mark the occasion of Ram's return to Ayodya and also to celebrate krishnan's act of demolishing the devil.. This was some 20000 years ago I guess and do we really need to celebrate something which happened that long ago.. Hmm probably No.. I am not an atheist or anti-hindu but in the current schema of things I guess Diwali celebration should be postponed.. If you ask me why here are my answers to your questions...
India is our Ayodya and do you think RAM will ever like to come back to India? For sure he wouldnt.. He would not like to see people killing each other in the name of religion and in the name of God.. He would not like to see people dying for a piece of land.. He would not like to see Ravana's and Surpanaka's all around him and he for sure would not like wat our country is right now.. Krishna would realise he has lot of devils to be destroyed and few of the devils are illiteracy and poverty.. Krishna would also understand for lot of people their minds are devils and to destroy them is a tough task.. Even rama and krishan would have said "OMG" if they ever come to India..
Gandhiji said India will get its independence only when woman can walk freely in midnight.. Well I would like to add a similar note.. We should really celebrate diwali when every Indian would kill the devil in himself and comes back as a human.. The devil we have for a piece of land in north kashmir should be destroyed.. We have killed them and they have killed us and its time for peace.. The devil we have on backward people should be destroyed.. We should understand that every one is same and we must love each other.. The devil we have on kannadikans and vice versa should be destroyed... The devil we have to fight on name of God should be destroyed..Each and every devil in us should be destroyed and then we should celebrate diwali...

Well, above all and everything else, there was this interview of Dr.Kalam by Vivek in Sun TV on Diwali morning. How ridiculous can this get. To top it all, I guess, during the close of the conversation, Dr.Kalam said, his elder brother has "ellu pethi", that means a great great grand daughter or so...And Vivek comments, if he has another generation and a grand daughter, then that will be called, "Lollu Pethi". Gosh. How far can this get. Ridiculous. The television channels are devoid of anything, call it whatever under the sky.
I totally agree with you about those stupid interviews with actors.
To me, festivals are times to reach out to friends and loved ones. Visit relatives and share sweets and laughter.
Reply to that email that has been long pending. Call a long distance friend and wish him/her.
It truly beats me that people find happiness in spending a fortune on crackers, and shopping in the most crowded place on earth - t nagar!
I agree with Deepa J. I also view Diwali to be a celebration of "Success of Good over evil".
Every year we should continue to celebrate Diwali for "Every one of us should personally battle and defeat the evil in us." This practice will bloom new Mankind.
